At Flourishing Futures, we understand that safe, dignified care benefits everyone — the person receiving support and the carers providing it.
Whether you are a domiciliary care provider, part of a care organisation, or an informal carer, we provide professional occupational therapy advice, practical demonstrations, and individualised assessments to support safer and more confident care delivery.
Safe and Dignified Moving & Handling
Dignified manual handling focuses on working with the individual, not doing something to them. Clear communication and collaborative techniques help promote participation and independence while supporting safer care practices.
Education and Practical Guidance for Carers
We provide education sessions and practical demonstrations for domiciliary carers and care teams, including:
- Safer moving and handling approaches
- Appropriate use of equipment
- Support with risk consideration prior to care tasks
Our input is designed to enhance carers’ understanding and support informed decision-making within their organisation’s policies and statutory training framework.
What Our Education Sessions May Cover
- Basic spinal anatomy and considerations relating to injury risk
- Practical moving and handling strategies
- Use of recognised tools such as BMAT (Bedside Mobility Assessment Tool) and TILEO (Task, Individual, Load, Environment, Other)
- Discussion of commonly used higher-risk techniques (e.g., bear hugs, rocking lifts, belt holds, full-body cradles) and exploration of alternative approaches
Sessions are educational and advisory in nature and do not replace mandatory training or regulatory requirements.
Occupational Therapy Assessments
Our HCPC-registered occupational therapists carry out personalised assessments to identify appropriate care approaches for each individual.
Where appropriate, we may provide professional recommendations regarding care configurations (such as single- or double-handed support), based on the information available at the time of assessment. Final decisions regarding care provision, staffing levels, and implementation remain the responsibility of the care provider.
Benefits for Clients and Carers
- Support for safer, more dignified care practices
- Professional guidance to help reduce injury risk
- Increased confidence in day-to-day care routines
- Practical strategies to support effective care delivery
At Flourishing Futures, we work collaboratively with care providers to develop practical, person-centred solutions that support both carers and those they care for.
