Focused support for a specific concern
Sometimes, you don’t need a full occupational therapy assessment — you simply need clear, specialist advice for one specific difficulty.
These targeted assessments focus on a single area of concern, providing practical, personalised recommendations to support comfort, independence, and participation in everyday life. This service is suitable for both adults and children and can take place at home, in school, or within the community, depending on your needs.
Who This Service Is For?
This service is particularly suitable for:
• Individuals experiencing a specific functional difficulty
• Children who are finding certain tasks or activities challenging
• Adults needing targeted advice following a change in ability
• Families or schools seeking clear, practical guidance
• Those waiting for NHS input but needing support sooner
• Anyone looking for a clear, focused assessment with practical recommendations and guidance on next steps This flexible assessment can address a wide range of functional concerns, including falls or frailty. You can find more information about these specific assessments on our dedicated Falls Prevention & Safety and Frailty & Ageing Well pages.
What We Do
During the assessment, our occupational therapist focuses on the specific area of concern and how it is affecting day-to-day life.
We review any strategies already in place, observe the individual in the most relevant environment, and explore practical adjustments or trial solutions where appropriate (for example, seating supports, equipment, or environmental changes). Physical, sensory, cognitive, and environmental factors are all considered to understand what is impacting day-to-day function.
Our aim is to provide practical recommendations that can be applied straight away where possible, alongside a personalised written report with further guidance and strategies.
What’s Included:
• A focused assessment (typically 60–90 minutes)
• Observation in the most relevant setting (home, school, or community)
• Practical, personalised recommendations
• Advice on equipment, adaptations, or environmental setup where appropriate
• A written report with clear findings and next steps
Reports are provided securely as a password-protected digital document.
Examples of Assessments

Next Steps
For some people, a one-off assessment is enough to put the right strategies in place.
In some cases, the assessment may highlight areas where additional support could help improve comfort, confidence, or day-to-day function.
If appropriate, we may suggest a small number of follow-up sessions to support implementation. These are entirely optional and tailored to your individual goals, offering practical support where needed.
Our Approach
Assessments are designed to be practical, focused, and reassuring. The emphasis is on realistic strategies that fit into everyday routines, helping individuals feel more comfortable, confident, and able to take part in daily life.
